A Short Course as taught by Sample Prep Solutions is an effective training approach that allows review and discussion of specific sample preparation and automation techniques to a group of scientists. A course is most often presented on-site as part of a training commitment and its content and duration are custom designed to meet the exact needs of an audience. Sometimes a course is presented in conjunction with a regional or national conference.

Two courses in particular have been well received:

HIGH THROUGHPUT METHOD DEVELOPMENT AND AUTOMATION APPROACHES FOR BIOANALYTICAL SAMPLE PREPARATION

Course Description

This practical half or full day course teaches high throughput techniques for performing bioanalytical sample preparation prior to LC/MS-MS analysis. All major applications of the 96-well microplate format as a solution to meeting the increasing demands for greater throughput in bioanalysis are reviewed. Specific approaches to performing rapid and efficient method development are emphasized. The sample prep procedures discussed include solid-phase extraction, protein precipitation, liquid/liquid extraction, filtration and various on-line techniques (e.g., turbulent flow chromatography and restricted access media). Strategies for automation of the sample preparation and method development procedures are emphasized using liquid handling workstations.

Target Audience

The course is generally intended for scientists in pharmaceutical and biomedical analysis who are interested in implementing and/or expanding their use of microplate sample preparation techniques. The topics presented will allow scientists to rapidly develop methods and improve their sample prep productivity. A basic understanding of extraction techniques is beneficial, although the fundamentals of extraction chemistry are reviewed as part of the course. Familiarity with automation is not required, although current users of liquid handling workstations can immediately apply the concepts presented to produce program templates for efficient method development.

SOLID-PHASE EXTRACTION

Course Description

This practical 1.5 day course teaches the fundamental strategies for using solid-phase extraction (SPE) to prepare samples for chromatographic analysis. A thorough review of product formats, techniques and applications provides the student with the knowledge to use SPE efficiently and successfully. Valuable information is also presented on how to develop, optimize, and troubleshoot SPE methods. Discussions and problem-solving exercises are used to reinforce the subject material.

Target Audience

The course is intended for scientists and supervisors in all fields of analytical science who are interested in implementing and/or expanding their use of solid-phase extraction as a sample preparation technique. The topics presented will allow scientists to improve existing methods, develop new methods and increase their overall productivity. Beginners and current users of SPE will both benefit from the course material as taught by a recognized expert.
