The
pharmaceutical industry has responded to the challenge of
higher throughput sample preparation by utilizing solid-phase
extraction in a 96-well flow-through microtiter plate format.
The combination of this plate format with automation, and
the proliferation of LC/MS/MS analytical techniques, have
all occurred to create a superior working environment for
the analytical chemist to meet the demands for faster sample
processing and data generation to support the drug development
process. To a lesser extent, automation also exists for the
traditional single disposable columns and cartridges used
for solid-phase extraction, as noted below.
